How do I install broadband service?

Broadband Service Installation

To install the Broadband service the user will need the right equipment, active service, and the correct outlets.

Needed to setup service:

  • Cable Modem
  • Computer
  • Installation disk (name of cable modem on it)
  • a USB cord (Windows ME and above) or an Ethernet cord (Windows 98SE and above)
  • an Ethernet card installed in the computer if using an Ethernet cord

To setup the broadband connection, follow these instructions:

  1. First make sure the cable modem box  has both the power cord and the coaxial cable cord plugged into the correct outlets.
  2. Next,  decide what type of cord to connect from the modem to the computer.
Note: If the user has Windows 98 an Ethernet connection will be needed, for any later version of Windows, either USB or Ethernet can be used to connect to the modem.
  3. Plug one end of the cord into the computer, and the other end into the cable modem.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. If using USB, the computer may say a new device has been found.
  6. Use the hardware wizard, or the cable modem installation disk
  7. Call the tech support office if there are any problems.
